Despite various cheaper and effective ways to remove stretch marks being available, people believe that laser treatment for stretch marks is the most effective procedure to get rid of it. No doubt it is an effective method but it is not free of side effects either. For one thing it may not be suitable for everyone, for another there is no guarantee is it will give you the desired results.

Before going deeper into the effects of laser treatment, let us have a look at what this treatment is all about. It stimulates collagen production with the help of laser rays. It feels like a rubber band is being snapped against the stretch marks. It works separately on different stretch marks therefore multiple sessions may be required. Usually this technique works best on relatively new stretch marks.

Like several other expensive medical procedure laser treatment for stretch marks also comes with some side effects.

  • · Quite often it is seen that laser treatment fades away the stretch marks successfully but leaves its own scars which is sometimes uglier than stretch marks. These are like permanent scars that cannot be treated.
  • · Immediately after laser therapy session the patient can feel nauseating. Usually this feeling remains for a day or two.
  • · Swelling is also seen in some of the cases. It is not too serious an issue; therefore you should be prepared for it if you are going for laser therapy.

Cost:

Laser therapy is a costly affair. Normally people go for laser surgery only after trying cheaper options. The cost of it is decided depending upon the no. and severity of scars. Your dermatologist can tell you the price on per session basis or in one package. Usually one session costs around $300. If ten sessions are required you can calculate the whole cost including the time spent on it. As time is money you need to take that also into consideration.
